Paris Motor Speedway Track Rules
Paris Motor Speedway (PMS) is dedicated to bringing enjoyment and fairness to Dirt Track Racing. We will strive to ensure fairness and uphold each and every rule
maintained in this book. We realize that without you, the drivers and the car owners, the track would not be a success. We look forward to making the 2008 racing season
the best for everyone.
GENERAL
The rules set forth and written under the Track Rules title apply to ANY/ALL individuals entering the track premises regardless of the car class and the individual(s) capacity
of participation. Unless otherwise stated these rules apply to all classes run at PMS on a regular basis.
IMCA Sanctioned classes – Paris Motor Speedway and IMCA General Rules will be applied. Where monetary values and penalties are different, IMCA fine amount(s) and
penalties will apply.
1. All PMS rules apply at all PMS events. All PMS participants agree
to abide by the official(s) decision.
2. Management reserves the right to change, add or amend any track
and/or car class rule(s) at any time if needed for safety, fairness or competition and/or the improvement of racing.
3. Any rule amendment(s) will be published during the course of the season and/or verbally given at the drivers meetings. They will be considered a part of the rules as
contained in this book and all track personnel are responsible for carrying out these rules. Printed Amendment and Driver will sign off upon receipt of written amendment.
4. Track officials shall have responsibility for rules and regulation enforcement at all PMS events. At discretion of track official(s) in charge, any competitor and/or
participant may be disqualified for rule violations, hazardous equipment and/or hazardous actions, all decisions will be final.
5. No alcoholic beverages allowed to be consumed in the Pit area during any PMS racing event(s). Any participant holding a pit pass and caught with alcohol on his/her
breath can/will be subject to eviction for the night and/or future refusal of pit entry.
6. No illegal drugs of any kind will be allowed on PMS premises at any time. Any individual caught, will be subject to eviction from PMS premises and/or legal action will
be taken.
7. No firearms and/or other weapons are allowed within the confines of the track.
8. The Patrolmen on duty are given the right and authority by management to enforce the rules and regulations of PMS, as well as all county, state and federal laws.
9. No transmitter-receiver radios allowed by any participant, due to interference with PMS equipment. Any individual caught with equipment of this nature, regardless if
being used or not, will cause the car they are with to be disqualified and loss of all points and money for the night will result. The individual caught with the equipment, will be
automatically barred for two (2) weeks for the first infraction. Subsequent infractions will be a loss of ALL points for the season; money for the night and the individual with
the equipment will be permanently barred from PMS for the remainder of the season. NO EXCUSES AND NO EXCEPTIONS.
10. After the last event if completed, NO ONE will be allowed on the track for any reason after the races have ended, unless approved by the track promoter/official(s).
11. Any person filing suit against PMS facilities, Track Official(s), Promoter and/or other participants not mentioned, for any incident occurring at the track will be barred
from entry during any/all legal and/or court proceedings. The individual(s) involved in any suit can also be barred permanently from any future PMS event(s).
REGISTRATION/ENTRANCE
Track Official(s) have the right to refuse entry to any car, driver, owner, crewmember and/or other participant(s) into the pit area, infield, and/or grandstands at any time
and/or for any reason.
1. Car owners must register their car numbers with the track. For 1099 purposes, if you are registered as an Owner and change drivers during the season, the track
must be notified of the changes. If the track is not notified of such changes, all tax statements by the first registered driver will be sent to you.
2. Registration fee is $25.00 per car and is non refundable. No points and/or money will be awarded unless car is registered prior to event taking place.
3. Pay cards will be issued to each driver/car owner once registered. The card will be valid for the 2008 season only and MUST be presented at the pay window in order
to receive money each week. A $5.00 replacement charge will be incurred for lost/stolen and/or destroyed pay cards. NO EXCEPTIONS.
4. Paris Motor Speedway will NOT be responsible for lost/stolen and/or accidentally destroyed payouts. Once you sign for your earnings, they then become your
responsibility.
5. Cars will be registered with the numbers 0 thru 999 on a first come first serve basis. Any driver/car owner registered last season, who participated in 8 or more events
will have their number held until after the first night of the next scheduled season. Those who fail to register and pay the registration fee by that time will loose the number.
Any number not registered will be released and become available to others. Any car registered for this season and participates in 8 or more events will have their number
held until the first night of next year’s racing.
6. There will be NO ALPHA CHARACTERS registered as part of their number. Letters can be placed on the car, however when registering, the letter will NOT be
considered to make the duplicate number unique.
7. Any duplicate number(s) by visiting competitors will be changed in the pits and MUST be approved by the Head Judge prior to racing, (See Painting for required
number dimensions.)
8. Reserved Pit Parking will be available for this year. The fee if $25.00 per parking place, is non refundable and must be paid in full. Reserved Parking spaces from
last season will be held for that driver/car owner until after the completion of the first night’s program. If not paid for by that time, the parking spot will come open for others
on a first come first serve basis. NO EXCEPTIONS. Drivers that purchased a parking spot last year and were there less than 8 nights will not have that spot held for them
this year. The same standard will apply for future seasons.
9. Anyone parking in reserved parking or a non-designated parking area will be asked to move. If a visiting competitor parks in a reserved parking area, please be
courteous and inform them that they will need to move or notify an Official.
10. Competitor Obligation: Every driver must inspect the racing surface and any other portion of the facilities to learn any defects, obstructions, or anything that in the
driver’s opinion, is unsafe and the driver shall report concern(s) to the Track Official(s) and/or Promoter in writing. Any driver and/or other participants entering any racing
event is considered to have personally inspected the racing surface/facilities and determined that its conditions are satisfactory. Drivers/Participants also acknowledge and
agree that auto racing is a dangerous sport and involves risks. By competing in any event, drivers/participants assumes these risks with full awareness and knowledge. It is
the drivers/participants responsibility to remove themselves from the area(s) and/or conditions they feel in their personal opinion are unsafe.
11. Pit permits must be worn on the left wrist and visible at all times. Anyone found guilty of letting unauthorized person(s) using their permits and/or anyone found in
the pits that has not signed the appropriate releases and/or purchased a pit pass will be dealt with. If you are caught in the pit area without a purchased pit pass, the car you
are with will be disqualified for the night and you will be barred from the pit area for a period of no less than two (2) weeks.
12. All drivers must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or sixteen (16) with notarized consent of parents or legal guardian for anyone under eighteen (18) years of
age. Thirteen and Fifteen year olds are allowed to run in the Jr. Mini’s ONLY. These drivers MUST furnish a copy of their birth certificate, as well as a NOTARIZED parental
consent form, a NOTARIZED Minor’s Release and authorization to receive medical attention.
13. Those under fourteen (14) are not allowed in the pit area unless a “Minor Release” is given. NOTE: Insurance does not cover anyone under the age of sixteen (16)
without written consent.
14. Car Owner/Driver must register all ATV’s and Golf Carts, etc. Anyone operating a registered ATV or Golf Cart must be at least 16 years of age with a valid U.S.
Drivers License. If your Race Team tows an ATV or Golf Cart with separate vehicle, you must park all trailers or tow vehicles in pit parking outside of pit area.
INSURANCE
1. It is compulsory that all race car owners, drivers, mechanics, officials and all other participants who enter the pit area and/or racing area participate in a group policy
(the amount of Medical disability and death benefits required by the insurance provider) and will read and acknowledge by the signature form releasing the Track, Owner,
Promoter and its employees from any claim for personal injury and/or damages, loss of any personal equipment. This includes, but not limited to, tow cars, push cars,
ambulances, personal vehicles, 4-wheelers, welders, etc.
2. Any person sustaining injury in the competition area must report the injury to the track owner and/or promoter within 15 minutes after the completion of the racing
program. All pit crews should be advised of this. Failure to do so can/will void your insurance benefits.
3. PMS and/or PMS Management is not responsible for accidents of any nature, damages incurred or loss by theft while on the premises of Paris Motor Speedway
CONDUCT
The Rules for Conduct have been established to maintain the enjoyment of racing for everyone involved. There will be NO TOLERANCE for NOT adhering to these rules. It
is the responsibility of everyone involved to know and abide by these rules!
1. Refusal of any Driver, car owner, pit crew member, spouse and/or any other participant involved with racing to abide by the set forth rules will be grounds for the
management and/or technical committee to refuse such individuals to participate, and/or penalties of a monetary nature or otherwise can/will be enforced.
2. Any individual that intentionally causes bodily harm of any kind to the Official(s) and/or any other PMS employee will be prosecuted and/or fined, a 30-day suspension
and/or will be permanently barred from entering PMS premises.
3. Any disorderly conduct of any kind, which includes but is not limited to fighting, verbal abuse, unusual disruptive behavior and/or intentional destruction of any
property will be immediately barred for a period of no less than two (2) weeks. Once suspended, an individual may be required to pay a monetary penalty, in cash, prior to
returning to PMS events.
4. Drivers and/or car owners will be responsible for the conduct of their pit crew, spouses, friends and/or any other individuals tied to your race team. NO
EXCEPTIONS! Their behavior is a reflection of your race team.
5. Any unauthorized person entering the judge’s tower, announcer’s booth, flag stand (including distracting him from the ground) will cause immediate disqualification
and loss of all money and points for the night and or suspension of no less than two (2) weeks.
6. Any driver, car owner, pit crew, spouse and/or other participant who deliberately obstructs any race for any reason at any capacity, can/will bring immediate
disqualification of the entire race team for the night. All money and points for the night will be forfeited. Any subsequent occurrences can/will bring immediate disqualification
of the entire race team for the season and ALL points will be lost.
7. Driver Conduct: Any driver and/or other participant associated with that driver, that goes to another car’s pit area (this includes just outside the pit parameter) with
the intention to cause an altercation can/will be fined $100.00 and suspended for no less than two (2) weeks. Second offense will be fined $200.00 and suspended for no
less than four (4) weeks. All money and points earned for the night will be lost.
8. Driver is responsible for EVERYONE that comes in with his/her car. This includes those in the grandstands and the driver will be disqualified for failure to abide by the
rules. Points and money can/will be forfeited.
9. Any driver, car owner, spouse, pit crew and/or any participant that requires PMS to call the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department will be fined NO less than $100.00 and
suspended for no less than two (2) weeks.
10. Any conflict between drivers will be discussed by the Track Official(s). Conflicts and/or questions will be discussed WITH ONLY THE DRIVER (S) INVOLVED.
Anyone else creating verbal altercations of any kind will not be tolerated and can/will result in Disqualification for Unsportsman like conduct.
11. Any driver intentionally using his/her car in a malicious manner in the pit area and/or on the racetrack can/will be subject to a fine. This includes retaliation against
another driver.
12. The speed limit in the pits is not to exceed 5 miles per hour. NO EXCEPTIONS. Failure to control speed will result in disqualification and loss of points and money
for the night and/or suspended for no less than 2 weeks
FLAG RULES
All drivers must understand the flags; flagman’s and board man’s signals. Failure to obey will bring immediate disqualification. THE FLAGMAN’S DECISION WILL BE FINAL.
Failure to see will NOT be an excuse. Any arguments concerning his decision can/will result in disqualification for the night and loss of points and money.
• GREEN Flag: Start of the Race
• WHITE Flag: One Lap To Go
• CHECKERED Flag: Race is Completed
• RED Flag: STOP Immediately
Any and all drivers passing another car to advance their position under a Red Flag will restart that race at the tail end of the field.
• YELLOW Flag: Caution – Stop racing. Continue at Pace Lap Speed. No passing the car in front of you! You must go into Single File formation. Infraction of this rule
can/will result in you restarting on the rear. No Crew Member is allowed to work on a car during a Caution.
• BLUE & YELLOW Flag: (Passing Flag) This is for Lap Cars, faster traffic is coming up behind you. HOLD YOUR LINE so that they can pass safely. DO NOT get in
their way or it can result in you getting the Black Flag.
• BLACK Flag: (Consultation Flag) Immediate disqualification from race, Leave the track immediately and proceed to the Pit Area. Consult a Track Official for
explanation of Disqualification. You will be scored in the last available position upon leaving.
Refusal to leave the track for any reason can/will be viewed as Unsportsman like conduct. Immediate disqualification will result.
SAFETY RULES
1. No driver, car owner, pit crew and/or other participant shall have claim for damages, expenses or otherwise against PMS, Promoter, official(s) and/or any other PMS
employee, by reason of disqualification, or damage to, either race car, driver or both and/or any other participant; and everyone agrees the track is in safe condition if they
take part in the racing activities at PMS.
2. All drivers, car owners and other participants assume full responsibility for any and all injuries sustained including death and property damage; at any time they are on
the PMS premise, en route thereto and/or there from PMS premises.
3. The track official(s) and/or promoter may require examination of any driver at any time before he/she is allowed to compete.
4. Fire extinguishers are OPTIONAL: If placed in car it MUST be securely mounted with metal or plastic mounts and Velcro straps and within drivers reach.
5. A Safety Firewall is required between the fuel tank and the driver and must pass safety inspection.
6. Every car must be equipped with 5 point racing harness equipment. All safety belts must be mounted securely to the roll cage. No chest and/or breast belts allowed.
7. Window safety nets required for all classes.
8. ALL drivers must wear approved fire suit designed for auto racing as well as fire retardant, racing gloves, shoes and neck braces. Recommended: Fire retardant
head sock and underwear, head and neck restraints.
9. All cars must have at least two wheel brakes in operating condition upon entering the pits (except Mods and I-Stocks).
10. All cars must have working safety nets (minimum sixteen (16) inches by twenty (20) inches.) Ribbon or mesh style only.
11. All cars must have working reverse and must be able to start on its own. (Except for classes that do not require starters i.e., Sprint Cars, Midgets, etc.)
12. All batteries must be securely fastened to the frame and must not be in the same compartment as the driver.
13. Helmets MUST be of approved type and designed specifically for auto racing. Snell SA-90, 95 and 2000 full face helmets No motorcycle helmets allowed.
14. All drive shafts must be painted white. All drive shafts must be looped at the front maximum ¼” x 2” steel or 1” round tubing 0.95 minimum. Loop must be mounted
6” back from u-joint (except Cruisers). Chains are not allowed.
15. All weight must be securely mounted, painted white and have the car number painted on it.
16. All cars must be equipped with a throttle closing spring at the carburetor.
17. All cars must have (3) bars no less then ¼” diameter in the windshield area in front of the driver (except Cruisers)
18. Paris Motor Speedway, its promoter, officials, owner and/or any other PMS employee will assume no responsibility for safety of racecars.
19. Steel doorplate 18-gauge or .049-inch minimum thickness metal must be securely welded to outside the door bars on drivers’ side. Plate must cover area from the
top door bar to the rocker panel and from the rear down post to five (5) inches in front of the seat. Must be visible for inspection. Not applicable to the Cruisers.
20. All drivers must wear approved racing gear while running hot laps and/or racing.
21. All drivers must remain in their cars while on the track unless your car is on fire or you are instructed by track officials/emergency medical team otherwise. NO
EXCEPTIONS AND/OR EXCUSES.
22. The race will be stopped anytime a car catches on fire. That car must leave the track once the fire has been extinguished.
23. The speed limit in the pits is not to exceed 5 miles per hour. NO EXCEPTIONS. Failure to control speed will result in disqualification and loss of points and money
for the night and/or suspended for no less than 2 weeks.
PAINTING
1. All cars MUST be painted in colors that contrast with the number. Dark color numbers on light cars and vice versa. You will be advised and asked by the Judges only
one time to correct the problem. Failure to make your number(s) legible when asked will not be Judges fault with incorrect scoring and/or finishes.
2. All registered car numbers must be a minimum of twenty (20) inches high and four (4) inches thick. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you register a double or triple digit number,
then each number MUST meet the minimum size requirement.
3. Registered car numbers must be located on both doors and roof of the car. Your number must be painted on the left side rear panel and it must be a minimum of six
(6) inches high by two (2) inches thick.
4. There will be NO duplication of numbers and NO alpha characters allowed.
5. We ask that you do not use Holographic or reflective material of any type for your numbers, they are very hard to see from the tower AND judges will not be
responsible for incorrect scoring if you choose to use such material.
6. Failure to comply by these rules may bring disqualification and/or failure to be scored until the problem is corrected.
7. All cars and their advertising must be clean, neat and in good taste.
POINTS STRUCTURE
1. Points and awards will accrue in the driver’s name in each class.
2. Awards will be given to the Top 10 drivers in each class at the end of the season.
3. There will be no driver and/or changes once the racing program has begun. Any driver changes made after the night’s program has started, the individuals involved
will be disqualified and lose all points and money for the night. Any subsequent infraction(s) by the same individual(s) can/will result in disqualification for the night and loss
of points for the season. You must drive the same car all night!
4. Weekly “A” Feature win is worth 40 points, with each subsequent finishing position worth one (1) point less. This would make the 24th position with 17 points. Should
the track opt to start more than 24 cars in the feature, all positions from the 24th back will earn 17 points.
5. When the track runs a “B” Main event in any class, the 1st non-transferring car will earn 16 points and each subsequent position back to the 6th non-transferring car
will earn one (1) point less per position. The 6th non-transferring car and back will earn 11 points.
6. Drivers that do not start their Heat and do not start the A and/or B Feature will not earn any points for that night. There will be NO “Show Up” points awarded.
7. Should a driver qualify for A and/or B Feature and is not able to compete due to mechanical or other difficulties, will be scored in last position and earn points
according to that position.
8. Start money will be paid ONLY to those who start their Feature race with good intentions.
9. Driver’s MUST participate in at least 50% of PMS scheduled events to be eligible for the Top 10 Title and Point Fund money.
RACE PROCEDURES
A program will not be considered a completed program unless all Class Heat races have been run. In the event of a Rain Out and Heat Races have not been completed,
hold your pit pass to obtain entry at the next scheduled even we run (except special shows). In the vent that the show has been deemed completed, your pit pass will not be
accepted.
1. All drivers will help pack the track or you will start on the rear. If your car is unable to pack due to mechanical problems, that is OK, but do not have problems every
week, or you will find yourself on the rear. If you are unable to pack the track, you must notify a Track Official or you will be forced to start on the rear. NOTE: Driving on
portions of the track already packed does NOT constitute as “Packing the Track”
2. No trial runs unless the track is open for Hot Laps or unless approved by the promoter.
3. ALL cars will be subject to inspection AT ANY TIME for rule compliance.
4. The number of cars starting a race is determined by the track promoter and depends on the type of event, width, length and condition of the track.
5. Any driver/car not ready to compete when called may be sent to the rear of the starting line-up, or left out of balance of program at discretion of official in charge. No
driver/car may enter the race once the green flag has dropped.
6. The car on the pole sets the pace and the flagman starts the race initially! Race starts at the designated chalk line.
7. Any driver refusing to line-up in the position they are given on restarts will be sent to the rear of the race. Refusal to go to the rear will result in immediate
disqualification. Any car that stops on the racetrack will also be automatically sent to the tail end of the field.
8. A race may be stopped at discretion of officials or any time, if considered dangerous, but only the officials have the right to stop the race.
9. No race is official until a declaration is made of final scoring of positions.
10. All cars must be able to start and finish under their own power (except Sprint type cars).
11. No individual will be allowed on the racing surface and/or infield except track officials and other track personnel. This includes Cautions! If your pit crew comes out
on the tract for any reason without clearing it with the promoter, you will be disqualified from that race.
12. Any car can be disqualified for the sake of appearance and/or safety at the discretion of the track official(s).
13. NO driver/car changes once the night’s program has begun. You MUST drive the same car all night in all your races.
14. Restarts: 10 or less cars will line up single file. 11 or more, the leader will be out front and remaining cars will be double file.
15. Restart Jumps:
1st offense – Go to the rear.
2nd offense – Go to the pits and scored
in last position.
16. All cars must start their Feature will good intentions in order to receive start money.
17. If race is stopped, ALL cars involved AND/OR at a dead stop will restart on the rear of the race.
18. There will be a 2-caution rule in effect. You cause 2 cautions and you will go to the pits and be scored in the last position available when you leave the race.
19. THE JUDGE’S DECISIONS ARE FINAL IN ALL CASES
20. There will be no Pit Lane for this season. If you have to leave the track you will not be allowed back out on the racetrack.
21. No working on your cars on the track or infield at any time.
22. You MUST remain in your car AT ALL TIMES while on the track, except in the event of a fire and/or you are instructed by our EMS team and/or promoter, You will be
disqualified.
23. If you intentionally cause a caution, you will get a Black Flag, sent to the pits and scored in the appropriate position.
24. Cars causing a caution due to single car spinout will be sent to the pits and scored in the last position available when you leave.
25. There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for racing through the infield. You will receive a Black Flag, sent to the pits and scored in the last position available when shown
an unfurled Black Flag.
26. All restarts will start single file on the third caution. There will be a cone placed on the front straight on all single file restarts. Any and all drivers hitting the cone or
passing another car to advance a position will automatically go a lap down. We will not stop and re-align the field if you jump the start on a single file restart.
27. Any driver who does not run the “Quick 6” race will start on the back of the feature race.
PROTESTS / CLAIMS / TECH INSPECTION
The track reserves the right to tear down/protest any car and/or engine in any class and disqualify any driver and/or car from competition.
1. Approval of a race car by inspector shall mean only that it is approved for participation in a racing event and shall not be construed in any way to mean that it is
guaranteed mechanically sound and/or safe. PMS and its officials shall not be liable for any mechanical failure nor for any losses, injuries or death resulting from same.
2. During tech inspection NO individual will be allowed to enter the tech area until the official(s) and/or tech man is present to tech that specific car. Anyone found
working on a car for any reason in the tech area without an official at that car will be immediately disqualified. NO EXCEPTIONS AND NO EXCUSES.
3. Any car protested and found illegal will lose all money, points and/or trophy earned that night.
4. Once found legal that car must pass inspection before being allowed to race again.
5. Any car protested and refusal to tear down will lose all money, points and/or trophy earned that night. The car must pass tech before being allowed to race again.
6. Any car under protest or claim taken from the claim/tech area without first being cleared by the official(s) in charge will subject car and driver to immediate
disqualification, losing all awards and points for the night.
7. Drivers can only protest/claim one car per night.
8. All protests must be in writing and filed with the promoter or tech inspector prior to the feature race. The protest must be specific in alleged violation to determine
whether protest is allowed or rejected.
9. A car may only be protested for one thing per night per person.
10. Drivers may not protest another driver finishing in a position behind them and the protesting car must finish on the lead lap. Money will be returned if the protest is
invalid due to where the protesting car finishes.
11. Any driver wishing to protest and/or claim another driver MUST run the entire race and cross the checkered flag under his/her own power.
12. All protests will be handled at the track level and must be accompanied with a $150.00 cash deposit. $50.00 of the deposit goes to the track regardless of the
outcome of the protest and is non refundable. If item being protested is found illegal remaining deposit will be forfeited. If found legal $100.00 will be refunded to the
protestor.
13. In the event of a protest and/or motor claim, the claiming car and the driver must go to the tech area immediately after the feature race. If the claiming car is found
legal, it will be disqualified, lose all points/money for the night and a $100.00 fine will be incurred.
14. PMS tech inspector has the right/authority to disqualify a car for “ANYTHING” found illegal during a protest and/or claim.
